"Here I Go Over again" is a song past British stone band Whitesnake. Originally released on their 1982 album, Saints & Sinners, the ability ballad was re-recorded for their 1987 cocky-titled album. Groundwork and writing [edit]

The song was written past the atomic number 82 singer, David Coverdale, and sometime Whitesnake guitarist, Bernie Marsden. The most notable difference between the original and re-recorded versions are a slight change in the bluesy lyrics and footstep.[x] The re-recording of the song in 1987 was advised by record labels bosses Al Coury and David Geffen equally a negotiation bargain with Coverdale to re-record "Crying in the Rain" for the band's self-titled anthology Whitesnake released in 1987.[11] [12] [13]

The chorus of the original version features the lines:

And here I go once more on my own
Goin' down the simply route I've ever known
Like a hobo I was built-in to walk solitary

In an interview, Coverdale explained that initially the lyrics had "drifter" but as that was already used in different songs he chose instead "hobo", notwithstanding the latter was changed again to "drifter" in the re-recorded '87 version, reportedly to ensure that it would not be misheard as "homo".[10] [12]

The song was used in the climax of romantic one-act film Homo Upward (2015).[10]

Music video [edit]

The '82 music video features the ring performing the vocal onstage.[12] The music video for the '87 re-recorded version was directed past Marty Callner.[15] The video includes, besides the band's phase performance, appearances by model Julie East. "Tawny" Kitaen, who was married to Whitesnake'due south David Coverdale from 1989 to 1991.[2] [12] Her notable sex-appeal was immediately recognized, having memorable unchoreographed scenes dressed "in a white negligee, writhing and cartwheeling across the hoods of two Jaguars XJ" which belonged to Coverdale (white) and Callner (blackness).[xv] [16] [17] Coverdale recalls that he even brought choreographer Paula Abdul to the set to evidence some moves to Coverdale's girlfriend Tawny, but only to positively exclaim that she couldn't "show her anything".[18] [19] [twenty] Coverdale'southward iconic white Jaguar once again appeared in the music video for single "Close Up & Buss Me" from their 2019 studio album Flesh & Claret.[18] [21]

There are several different versions of the vocal, all recorded officially by Whitesnake.[12]

  • The original version from the 1982 Saints & Sinners album with Jon Lord on Hammond organ and Bernie Marsden and Micky Moody on guitar (five:03)[23]
  • The most pop version is the re-recorded version that appears on the Whitesnake (aka 1987) album with John Sykes on guitar (solo by Adrian Vandenberg) (4:36)[24]
  • A 1987 "radio-mix" version, asked by Geffen,[thirteen] which was released every bit a United states of america unmarried with Denny Carmassi on drums and Dann Huff on guitar, who also provided the new organisation, which included an intro without keyboards and no Coverdale vocal intro verse. Chart performance [edit]

This song is notable for being the but Whitesnake vocal to get airplay on adult gimmicky stations despite the fact "Is This Honey" reached number 38 at that place and this song did not chart at all on the Air conditioning charts.[26]

  • A dance cover version by Frash was a pocket-sized hit in the United kingdom in 1995, reaching number 69.[48]
  • In 2004, a dance/popular version of "Here I Go Again" was recorded by Shine dancer and singer Mandaryna.[49] Released as the debut single from her debut album Mandaryna.com, the song became a hit in Poland. It was afterward remixed by Axel Konrad of Groove Coverage for the single release in German speaking countries.
